Pigeon Creek High showcased a stunning rendition of West Side Story last night.
Over forty students came together in a performance that held true to the 1957 version of the play.
With Calder McAllister picking up the role of Tony in his position as understudy to Freddy Standsberry who, sadly, broke his foot during last week’s wrestling match against Our Lady of Sorrows, it might be said that the entire endeavor was in jeopardy. But Calder, despite having only six days to prepare, truly did the cast proud.
Calder, more known for his art skills around town than his acting abilities, shone in more ways than just a surprisingly soulful baritone—the backdrops were all designed by him, in conjunction with Eloise Grant whose portrayal of Maria had the audience aflutter.
The play will be running for two nights to raise money for Kindersen’s Humane Society Animal Refuge as well as a new coffee machine for the student homeroom.
